Covid-19 update – suspension of legal terms in court proceedings and compulsory official filings in Turkey

Earlier this year, the Turkish Parliament passed a law suspending all legal terms in court proceedings and all compulsory official filings from 13 March 2020 until 30 April 2020 due to the covid-19 outbreak (for further information, please see previous article). Further, the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office announced that this delay is also valid for the terms specified in the Industrial Property Law (6769.)

Following a presidential decree published on 30 April 2020, this suspension period has been extended to 15 June 2020, but may be re-evaluated if the threat of the spread of covid-19 lessens.

Further, on 5 May 2020 the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office announced the suspended terms and new deadlines in accordance with the current development. Deadlines have been extended further and are calculated on a case-by-case basis depending on the starting and expiration dates of the standard time periods for each case.
