The nomination period for the 2012 <i>WTR</i> Industry Awards has been extended to Monday December 12, giving nominators more time to highlight the hard work and achievements of their peers, colleagues and clients over the past year.

The search for meaning – are brands failing to create connections?

While companies navigate the different valuation methods in a bid to ascertain true brand value, new research has focused on a different intangible – meaningfulness. Ikea, Google and Nestlé lead the way, but the study also found that consumers feel only a fifth of brands have a notable positive impact on their sense of wellbeing and quality of life, with marked differences in the regional attachment to brands.

The wait is over as Google+ unveils personalised brand pages

Last month, <i>WTR</i> pondered what Google had in store for brands wishing to have a presence on its Google+ social network, with some choosing not to wait and instead taking out individual user profiles on the site. The search engine giant has now announced the rollout of branded Google+ pages, which will now show up in Google’s search results.

Free speech in UDRP cases: settled rules or context-based approach?

In <i>Equality Charter School Inc v Davids</i>, Equality Charter School Inc has failed to obtain the transfer of the domain name ‘equalitycharterschool.com’, which was used for non-commercial commentary criticising the school’s management. The decision illustrates the uncertainty that lies around the use of a website used to criticise third parties and, generally, of the different ways panels can apprehend a UDRP case.
