Nikolaus Schmidt-Hamkens provides legal advice in all areas of intellectual property law. The focal points of his legal advice encompass trademark, competition, and design law. He advises internationally active companies in the legal coordination of cross-border product launches, marketing and advertising campaigns, as well as with the safeguarding of their intellectual property rights. In doing so, he assumes charge of both advising his clients out of court and representing them in court.
As part of his education at Bucerius Law School in Hamburg he specialized in International Private and Commercial Law as well as Comparative Law. Before his legal clerkship at the Hanseatic Higher Regional Court of Hamburg he worked as a research assistant for the law firm Latham & Watkins.
Following his legal clerkship, Nikolaus Schmidt-Hamkens worked as a lawyer at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe in the Corporate and M&A department.
Mr. Schmidt-Hamkens is a member of the German Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (GRUR). He speaks German and English and also has a working knowledge of French and Italian.
Nikolaus Schmidt-Hamkens has been an attorney at KNPZ Rechtsanwälte since February 2021.
